The hen saddle does a great job to protect your chicken’s skin during mating season from the rooster’s nails and spurs. This can lead to serious damage.
During late summer the moulting process will start then new feather growth will begin. Remove the hen saddle at this point so the new feathers are not interfered with and wont be abraded.
